ECSU Vaughan Center
This comprehensive renovation of the Vaughan Center Gymnasium is designed to enhance the facility’s functionality, accessibility, and overall user experience. The design-build project includes the demolition of the outdated wooden bleachers and the installation of new motorized, retractable seating on both the gym floor and mezzanine, accommodating a minimum of 2,500 spectators. To improve accessibility, a new ADA-compliant ramp will be constructed to connect to the raised gym floor.
The gymnasium features a brand-new, high-performance wooden multipurpose court suitable for basketball, volleyball, and intramural sports. State-of-the-art lighting will elevate the space for both athletic and educational events.
The renovation scope (Phase 2) extends to six educational classrooms, which will receive new distance learning technology, ceiling grids and tiles, updated finishes on existing CMU walls, and ADA-compliant door hardware. Two auditorium-style classrooms will be transformed into flexible, multipurpose learning environments, each with a capacity of up to 49 students.
The main lobby will be revitalized with new entry doors, updated lighting, and integrated technology for a modern and welcoming experience. Additional improvements include demolition of two offices to create an ADA-accessible entrance to the natatorium, upgraded locker rooms with new tile, plumbing fixtures, and private showers, refreshed faculty and staff offices, and the development of a second-floor cultivation space.
Throughout construction, the adjacent Riley Wellness Center will remain fully operational and accessible.
