App State Innovation District
Muter Construction in a joint venture partnership with Greene Construction (Muter-Greene) delivered the infrastructure for Appalachian State University’s transformative 22-acre Innovation District—an ambitious project that includes the STEM 1 Building, 156 faculty and staff housing units across five three-story buildings, and a state-of-the-art District Energy Plant.
Our sitework package includes clearing, mass grading, erosion control, and storm drainage across the district, along with the relocation of Bodenheimer Drive and the construction of a dedicated emergency access road. To ensure a smooth campus experience, our team also installed temporary signage and striping ahead of students returning from winter break.
As the project evolved, Muter-Greene was trusted to take on additional responsibilities, including expanded storm drainage and sewer infrastructure, a 12-inch water line loop for the housing site, and grading, paving, and utility installation at the Energy Plant.
